Our digital ambition

Digital technology is shaping the future of the oil and gas industry.

We recognise the benefit of a digitally enabled future and the value it can unlock. We believe we can harness the power of these data driven technologies to transform our business performance and that of our clients by:

  • Enhancing worker safety
  • Increasing operational efficiencies
  • Empowering and speeding up decision making
  • Increasing predictability in asset performance
  • Improving capital projects’ spend efficiency
  • Assuring the delivery of projects on time
  • Maximising productivity and uptime

Petrofac has partnered with leading digital technology providers, to combine their platforms and products with our extensive engineering and operations expertise. This collaboration will result in digital solutions to transform the way we work and how we support our clients.

We are working closely with Accenture and its Industry X.0 practice to adopt, tailor and deploy digital solutions that will enable us to reduce costs, improve safety and increase plant and equipment uptime. So far, our collaboration is focusing on initiatives which leverage digital technology such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), automation, machine learning, predictive analytics, digital twin and Edge computing.

Our digital programme currently includes:

In December 2018, we opened our state-of-the-art Innovation Zone in Aberdeen, Scotland. This immersive, collaborative space is equipped with a range of the latest technologies. It enables employees, clients and suppliers to explore emerging digital trends, see new technologies in action and conduct idea-generation sessions. All with the aim of identifying the potential value of digital technology.

Our digital transformation strategy also includes using digital techniques to support next-generation training for the oil and gas industry. Across our Training Services portfolio we are enhancing our approach to designing, delivering and assuring competence through the application of technology such as:

  • Digital training content
  • Interactive and immersive training infrastructure
  • Augmented reality
  • Learning and competency management systems and software

These technologies sit within a wider portfolio of learning and management services which include learning and competence management systems and a training management service. An example of where we have deployed these capabilities to great effect is our most recent technical training in Oman, Takatuf Petrofac Oman, where we are a JV partner in the facility which is leading the way with new approaches that accelerate the path to operational competency.
