Accessibility

We are committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience. We are continuously making improvements to conform with industry recognised accessibility standards.

In short, our goals if for our website to be accessible to all.

How to get the best experience from this website

Our website can be viewed on a range of screen sizes and devices, including desktop, laptop, tablet, and smartphone. The size of text can be changed to suit different people. We have also included a search facility and site index to help people find information more easily. Furthermore, we use filters on selected pages to enable a better user experience and quicker access to the information you require.

Accessibility guidelines

Our aim is to ensure that all pages of this website conform to level A of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0 (WCAG 2.0). These guidelines are the internationally recognised benchmark for building accessible websites. We have made progress in 2023 to 100% conformity, but there is more to be done. We monitor our accessibility through a third-party tool and plan our optimisation initiatives in accordance.

Development fixes and improvements we have made in 2023

  • Button missing a text alternative (level A)
  • Image missing a text alternative (level A)
  • Link missing a text alternative (level A)
  • Container element is empty (level A)
  • Element IDs are not unique (level A)

Developments we are yet to complete:

  • Inline frame missing a text alternative (level A)
  • Table cell missing context (level A)
  • Table header cell is missing a header role (level A)
  • Form field missing a label (level A)

In addition to level A, we are also looking and monitoring the mid-range, level AA conformance. The only level AA issue identified by our third-party accessibility monitoring software is: Colour contrast does not meet minimum requirement. Due to historic company colours, we are currently limited with this improvement, but expect to look at it in due course.

Accessibility of content

In 2023 we started looking in more depth at how we serve content to users, and ensuring that content is accessible. This included:

  • All new videos featured on Petrofac.com having subtitles in English if they include any spoken words
  • Long form video content (such as our Energy Talks by Petrofac podcast) including transcripts
  • Accessible PDF documents:
    • 100% of our policies featured on Petrofac.com are now fully accessible PDFs
    • In 2024 we are planning to make all PDF documents, including brochures, fully accessible
    • Our 2022 Annual Report published in 2023 was the first accessible PDF Annual Report we have published

Limitations remain with PDFs that use brand colours, as these do not provide enough colour contrast. To open and view PDF files, you can download the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader free of charge.
