Air emissions
We have set ambitious and achievable Scope 1 and Scope 2 targets as we aim to minimise our own environmental impact, while supporting our clients in achieving their lower carbon ambitions.
B
Biodiversity
We support the UN convention on Biodiversity and work with our clients to promote a risk-based approach to protection.
C
Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS)
CCUS is a key area of interest for Petrofac and we have an ideal skill set for new energy markets including carbon capture.
Carbon emissions
We have set ourselves a Net Zero target for carbon emissions in our core businesses. We support the principles of the Paris Agreement, the UK government’s Net Zero goal, and are aligned with our clients’ own ambitions as the sector moves to a net zero future.
Compliance
We continue to invest in and enhance our compliance function. Our Compliance Programme is overseen by the Compliance & Ethics Committee.
Community
We are committed to creating shared value, by engaging with local communities, investing in local supply chains, employing local people, and stimulating local economies.
Covid-19
In the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, our health and safety teams were focused on how best to continue our operations, whilst also protecting our people and partners from the virus. One of the ways we protected our people from the threat of COVID-19 was to work with public and private healthcare providers to orchestrate and accelerate vaccination programmes.
- In India, we have provided 7,200 COVID-19 vaccines for marginalised people.
- In Algeria, we donated 220 oxygen concentrators for the Ministry of Health, with 40 of the units dedicated for use in Illizi province to support the communities local to our Tinrhert project
- In Thailand, we supplied COVID-19 support bags to nearby villages to help those within the local community who needed to self-isolate and home quarantine
D
Diversity and Inclusion
We employ people from more than 85 different nationalities, and we have a strong record in ethnicity diversity. We recognise that we have work to do in terms of improving gender diversity, and we have been taking important steps in this area.

Gender diversity

Labour rights
All new vendors and suppliers that wish to work with us are screened against human rights criteria when pre-qualified and required to commit to Petrofac’s Labour Rights and Worker Welfare Standards.
Local delivery
Local delivery has always been central to the way we work. We make a determined effort to employ local people, build local capabilities, draw on local supply chains, stimulate local economies and engage with local communities.

N
Net Zero
Alongside our own commitment to being Net Zero by 2030 in our scope 1 and scope 2 emissions, we support the principles of the Paris Agreement, the UK government’s Net Zero goal, other ongoing national Net Zero ambitions, and are aligned with our clients’ own ambitions as the sector moves to a net zero future.
P
Paris Agreement on Climate
The Paris Agreement on Climate (2016) brought a renewed focus on limiting global warming, driving significant interest in reducing emissions. We have set a Paris-aligned target and goal for decarbonisation of our projects and operations.
R
Renewable energy
We have been supporting renewable energy projects since 2008. In addition, we are focusing on switching to renewable energy source in our offices and phase-in hybrid and electric vehicles on site, and fit smart building technology in our offices to maximise energy efficiency.
Recycling
Recycling is a key area of focus when minimising the environmental impact of our projects. We aim to reduce the amount of waste we generate and to maximise what we reuse or recycle through the introduction of circular economy ideas.
S
Social responsibility
As part of our corporate social responsibility, we are socially accountable to ourselves, our stakeholders, and the public. Our goal is to enhance the environments and societies in which we operate.
Sustainable development
We recognise issues such as climate change, energy consumption, increasing environmental regulation, and resource scarcity will increasingly impact on our operations. We therefore want to ensure sustainability is fully integrated into the business and remains core to our strategy.
Safety
Safety is our most important priority. We aim continually to improve our safety record, but our target for safety is always zero incidents.

Whistleblowing
We encourage anyone involved or engaged with Petrofac, including suppliers, vendors, contractors or clients, to report any concerns they might have about the way we operate.
Water
We aim to re-use water on our sites as much as possible. Our work on the Ghazeer project was a great example of how we can do that.
