Petrofac VP delivers keynote speech at ECITB Oil & Gas Project Management Conference

Leading skills organisation for the offshore industry – the ECITB, and the Offshore Project Management Steering Group, hosted the second Oil & Gas Project Management Conference in Aberdeen last week. This year’s event focused on cost efficiency and collaboration in project delivery and had an impressive line-up of speakers including Petrofac’s, Alex Hosie.

Alex, who is our VP for Business Delivery, delivered the keynote speech, which covered topics such as how to build relationships which are mutually beneficial to project owners and service providers.

Alex went on to highlight the importance of acknowledging the power of long-term, collaborative stakeholder relationships for project delivery:

“When project stakeholders take a long-term view, their collaborative efforts can deliver a greater understanding of each other’s areas of concern in delivery and often reveal new potential areas of project value.”

Alex also talked about the blockers that can affect stakeholder collaboration and encouraged attendees to think about the perspectives of project owners and those in the supply chain.

“When these perspectives are examined together, they have several areas in common: leadership, trust, participation and commitment culture.”

Reflecting on the day, which included knowledge sharing workshops, Alex commented:

“Petrofac is committed to playing its role in securing the sustainable future of the UK oil and gas industry. The ECITB Project Management conference is an important platform for us to share best practice and to examine and discuss our progress as an industry. Throughout the supply chain we all aspire to create greater collaboration in order to eliminate waste, drive down cost and maximise efficiencies, but a number of barriers are still impeding our progress. To move forward we need to identify, understand and move beyond these barriers to achieve collaborative success in project management.”
