SPD Completes Multi-Well, Multi-Customer Management Programme in UK North Sea

SPD, part of Petrofac Production Solutions, has successfully completed a four-well £73 million programme in the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS) Northern and Central North Sea utilising Diamond Offshore’s semi-submersible rig, the Ocean Nomad.

The sequence consisted of an exploration well, sidetrack and well test in Block 211/8c for Valiant Petroleum plc, two exploration wells (Volante and Blakeney) for Wintershall E&P Limited in Blocks 20/02b and 21/27b respectively, and an appraisal well for Nautical Petroleum plc in Block 9/02b to drill and test the Kraken discovery and a geological sidetrack.

Alex Macdonald, SPD managing director said: “SPD takes great pride in our ability to integrate and develop a deep understanding of our customer’s requirements. We are delighted to have delivered this diverse and challenging programme of work while fulfilling all of our customers’ data acquisition objectives in a safe and cost effective manner.”

SPD completed the four-well programme 34 days ahead of schedule resulting in total cost savings of around £10 million to its customers. A significant contributor to this success was the exceptionally low level of total Non Productive Time (NPT) of 8.75% which is significantly below the North Sea industry average.

Macdonald added: “We are now well underway to firming up our well management programme for 2011 and expect to be more active as we further pursue our target to be the well construction provider of choice for the UKCS.”
