Sohar celebrates 20 million man-hours LTI free

Thousands of Petrofac colleagues, contractors and clients at Orpic’s Sohar Refinery Improvement Project (SRIP) gathered at a ceremony to mark 20 million man-hours without a lost-time incident (LTI).

Since then, the project has achieved another milestone, reaching 25 million man-hours LTI-free. This achievement reflects Orpic’s core value of putting safety and the environment first – the safety of its people, plant, environment and operations.

Located 230km northwest of Muscat, Oman, SRIP is one of the largest oil and gas engineering, procurement and construction projects to be awarded in the sultanate. The scope of work includes:

  • start-up and commissioning services
  • improvements to the existing facility
  • new refining units

At the peak of its construction phase around 12,000 people will be working on the project.

When complete, it’s anticipated that the revamped facility will increase output by 70% - from just over 115,000 barrels per stream day to more than 185,000 barrels per stream day.

Petrofac was awarded the USD 2.1 billion 50/50 joint venture with Daelim Industrial Co Ltd by Orpic in 2013.
