Scottish MSP Takes Part in Petrofac's Environmental Awareness Month

Petrofac, the international oil & gas facilities service provider, has invited a Scottish Green Party MSP to its Aberdeen headquarters to help highlight the importance of protecting the environment.

Robin Harper, co-convener for the Scottish Parliament Cross Party Group on Renewable Energy, will visit Petrofac’s Bridge View office as part of the Group’s Environmental Awareness Month.

He will highlight the effects of global warming on the environment as well as the future of energy in Scotland before inviting questions from Petrofac employees.

Mr Harper said: “It is great that Petrofac is taking the initiative to hold its own environmental awareness month so that employees can learn more about how to protect the environment.

“One of the messages that I consistently spell out is that oil companies must start to become part of the solution to the problems of climate change. The consequences of climate change and peak oil will have economic and environmental impacts for which we must be preparing now.”

Gareth Jones, Petrofac Operations Services head of HSEQ, said: “Petrofac recognises that it has a role to play in protecting the environment and in reducing carbon footprints.

“We are working closely with employees and customers alike to address environmental matters which have a significant impact on the oil & gas industry. We hope that our environmental awareness week will have a marked effect on our employees by raising issues that are important not only in the workplace and industry we work in but everyday life as well.”

A series of events at Petrofac’s Bridge View office will cover a wide variety of issues ranging from renewable energy, recycling, sustainable use of energy to the effect of climate change on the oil & gas industry.

Advice on how to reduce fuel bills and recycle efficiently will be given by SCARF (Save Cash and Reduce Fuel) and Waste Aware Aberdeen, while The Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA), and Aberdeen Renewable Energy Group will also be hosting events throughout the month.
