Petrofac Upgrades Fire Training Facility

Petrofac Training, the training and consultancy arm of Petrofac, the international oil & gas facilities service provider, has recently installed a new lighting system in its world-renowned fire training facility in Montrose, Scotland.

Laserlite™ is an award-nominated lighting system devised by Chalmit Lighting, which hope to win the ‘Innovator’ category at the ONS 2008 awards in Stavanger in August. The obstruction and emergency lighting system is visible even in the most adverse conditions, including smoke filled locations and will add to the overall realism of the experience for delegates attending courses at the Montrose facility.

Marketing manager for Chalmit Lighting, Gareth Bruce, said: “Chalmit is very pleased to have installed this new product for Petrofac Training and believes this addition will enhance the overall training experience.”

He continued: “We are also developing our ‘Green light’ concept for escape route illumination to be installed in the module. The results are impressive and we believe this will help to advance the industry knowledge on escape route lighting. I would like to thank Petrofac Training for its continued support in developing new ideas.”

In addition to this innovative lighting system, the accommodation module has been redesigned and the structure now includes a fully functional helideck and lifeboat station, complete with a helicopter and lifeboat to replicate real life scenarios.

Pete Dennett, fire training manager at the Montrose facility, commented: “The revamped accommodation module, with its innovative lighting, and helicopter and lifeboat stations, is an exciting concept that will allow important training scenarios to be exercised.

“Our customers regard Petrofac Training as the leading provider of innovative and realistic training. These important first stages in our refurbishment programme together with the recent additions to our training portfolio of OPITO approved courses, further demonstrates our commitment to remaining at the forefront of training provision.”
