Petrofac to Build Sharjah Gas Plant

Petrofac Engineering & Construction, the engineering, procurement and construction division of the international oil services group, has secured a $82 million contract with Sajaa Gas Private Company Limited (SAJGAS) to build the company’s new gas plant at Sajaa in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.  The project is being managed by Crescent Petroleum on behalf of SAJGAS.

Following a competitive bid, the contract was awarded after Petrofac’s engineering division successfully completed the basic design (FEED) package for the gas processing facility last year. Petrofac will now execute the detailed engineering design, procurement and construction (EPC) phase of the project, which consists of an onshore gas receiving and processing facility including reception facilities, two gas sweetening trains, a sulphur recovery plant and associated utilities and infrastructure.

Commenting on the award, Maroun Semaan, chief executive, Petrofac Engineering & Construction said: “We are delighted to be working on this project with our Sharjah-based neighbour, Crescent Petroleum.  The locality makes the communication processes between our companies easier, and the fact that we carried out the FEED work last year has resulted in further efficiencies for both Crescent and Petrofac, as we started with a team which was already familiar with the project.  Having successfully transitioned from the FEED to the EPC phase of this project, we now look forward to further developing our relationship with Crescent Petroleum across the entire range of services offered by the Petrofac group of companies.”

Crescent Petroleum is a privately owned international oil & gas company with long-established interests in the UAE.
