Petrofac Secures North Sea Contract Extensions Worth £65m

Petrofac, the international oilfield service provider, has announced that it has secured major contract extensions in the North Sea worth a total of £65 million.

Total E&P UK (Total) has awarded a two-year contract extension following a five-year contract for technical services on the Alwyn and Dunbar platforms, both based in the Northern North Sea. Petrofac employs 191 people offshore and eight in supporting roles onshore.

Petrofac has also secured a renewal of its Duty Holder contract on the Kittiwake platform to the end of 2014, following the transfer of the asset to new owners EnQuest later this month. Petrofac currently employs 95 offshore and 20 onshore.

Additionally, Petrofac has secured a two year contract renewal from Centrica’s gas storage division, Centrica Storage Limited, for the provision of operations services for the Rough offshore gas storage facility – the UK’s largest – in the Southern North Sea. The contract, which has been reconfigured for Petrofac to provide an enhanced, ‘managed’ service on the 8a platform, builds on a relationship that dates back to 2007.

Walter Thain, Senior Vice President Europe, Petrofac Offshore Projects & Operations said: “Over the last five years we’ve built a good relationship with Total, and given the knowledge and experience we’ve developed of the Alwyn and Dunbar assets I’m delighted the company has exercised their option to extend our contract by a further two years. This gives us the opportunity to work together to unlock more value and further extend the life of each of the platforms - our ultimate aim for all our customers’ assets.

“We have a very longstanding relationship with the Kittiwake and a great record in working closely with successive asset owners to generate more value from it - helping to increase production, improve safety and asset integrity and reduce maintenance backlog for a decade now. EnQuest has exciting plans for the Greater Kittiwake area and we look forward to helping to deliver them.”

Petrofac has acted as Duty Holder on the Kittiwake platform since 2003 and also provides engineering management and construction services. The Kittiwake team recently celebrated the notable milestone of eight years without a single Lost Time Incident.
