Petrofac Launches E-Learning Initiative for Employees
Petrofac, the international oil & gas facilities provider, has launched a specialised e-learning tool, which will be available to employees in the UAE, as well as all site locations.
Recognising the need to augment the current offering of instructor-led training, seminars and workshops, the Engineering & Construction division’s Organisational Development (OD) department identified core competencies that can further enhance employees’ professional development. The e-learning programme provides over 300 courses targeting ‘soft skills’, such as communication and negotiation, project management, leadership, team management and decision-making.
New Horizons, a leading IT training company with offices in the region, has supplied the customised training tool. The intranet and internet based-system gives employees the advantage of self-paced learning that is both flexible and convenient.
Commenting on the new e-learning tool, Stuart Passey, training manager, OD said: “The new training initiative demonstrates Petrofac's commitment to ensuring our employees develop the right competency based skills and knowledge. As we roll out the tool to various departments, we are confident that over time we will see this new training initiative having a very positive impact on Petrofac’s ability to respond to future business needs.”
A pilot programme of the e-learning system was undertaken in November and December 2007. Following positive response and feedback, the e-learning scheme is now scheduled for a phased roll-out in Petrofac’s Engineering and Construction business starting in the second quarter of this year.
