Petrofac is Awarded Investors in People

Petrofac, the international oil & gas service operator, has been awarded the Investors in People (IIP) standard in recognition for its effectiveness in developing people and for its good practice in offering a wide range of learning and development activities.

IIP is supported by the government, employers' organisations and professional bodies and its award describes the ten characteristics of an organisation, which is effective at managing, developing and motivating its people to drive business improvement.

John Methven, European operations director at Petrofac Facilities Management, said: “Assessors from Scottish Enterprise carried out the IIP assessment and established that we were exceeding the basic requirements in a number of areas. Good practice was identified in the strategic planning process and the effectiveness of how management develops people, encouraging an open and interactive culture. It was also reported that we were effective at managing change and very proactive in reviewing and improving effective learning and performance development activities.

“The assessors considered Petrofac to be a market leader and a company people wanted to work for. They acknowledged the fact that we had enjoyed a significant growth in our market share for the past three years and had devised a number of particularly innovative ‘skills gap’ strategies through graduate/trainee recruitment, with new talent being brought in from the marine and onshore chemical industries.”

Methven concluded: “We received an excellent report from the IIP assessors, which reflects positively on all who participated and I would like to thank all those who were involved. Our ongoing liaison with the Engineering Construction Industry Training Board, OPITO and now the IIP will undoubtedly assist us in maintaining and improving the product of people supply and development.”
