Petrofac Introduces New NEBOSH-Accredited International Technical Certificate in Oil & Gas Operational Safety

Petrofac, the international oil & gas facilities service provider, announces that its Training Services business has been accredited to deliver the new NEBOSH International Technical Certificate in Oil & Gas Operational Safety course and is the sole accredited provider of this course in Scotland.

The five-day classroom-based course was developed in conjunction with NEBOSH (The National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health), after it selected Petrofac as its partner for the pilot course in 2007.

The course is a specialist qualification for personnel working in the oil & gas industry, both on and offshore, who have responsibility for safety as part of their role. It recognises that, although there is a basic set of principles to managing health and safety that are relevant in any industry, the oil & gas industry has its own specific hazards, including major accident hazards, which require a more specialist approach.

Gordon Caird, regional director – Europe, Petrofac Training Services said: “Oil industry workers operate in difficult and hazardous environments, and at Petrofac Training Services we are committed to ensuring that our customers attain the highest levels of safety and emergency response capabilities available in the industry today. The addition of this course is a real differentiator for us as few training providers in the UK have the competence and capability to deliver it. The course incorporates many different aspects of training delivery, including fire, health and safety, emergency response, marine, and hydrocarbon production and process operations.”

Teresa Budworth, CEO of NEBOSH continued: “Petrofac is already a partner of choice for NEBOSH given its global reach and heritage and experience in providing world-class training courses. Petrofac already delivers the NEBOSH general certificate, which is the most widely achieved safety qualification in the UK and has always been particularly popular in the oil & gas sector. The NEBOSH International Technical Certificate in Oil & Gas Operational Safety course we have established with Petrofac enables delegates to enhance the competencies gained through the general certificate whilst addressing the specific needs of the industry.”

A NEBOSH qualification is not essential to study the NEBOSH International Technical Certificate in Oil & Gas Operational Safety, however as the course is designed to build on delegates’ basic knowledge, an understanding of general health and safety management is advantageous.
