Petrofac extends UK emergency services offering

Petrofac, a leading provider of services to the global energy industry, has launched new offshore emergency management consultancy services to the UK's energy industry. The service covers all types of offshore assets, from traditional oil and gas to renewable energy. A key element is accessibility to a wider range of personnel, tailoring the service to real asset environments where potential scenarios could be experienced, rather than a classroom setting.

Led by Jillian Thomson and Debbie Spencer, Petrofac will provide offshore emergency response consultancy onsite in real environments, on customers’ facilities.  Together they bring over thirty years of experience in emergency management with previous experience in the Police Service and Coastguard, respectively. With nine years each as Major Emergency Management Instructors training candidates to OPITO standards, they also hold SQA accreditation as both Assessor and Verifier, with all the relevant certifications allowing them to travel to offshore assets.

Jillian commented:

“The new service builds on Petrofac’s existing emergency response and crisis management consultancy services, enhancing customers’ ability to build a one-stop-shop of support. Importantly, we’re constantly evolving to reflect changing needs – this includes ensuring provision to support individuals and the wider team in the event of violence and/or acute mental health-related incidents.”

Debbie added:

“Crucially, we can mobilise to any onshore or offshore asset and identify bespoke support, direct to teams, and in a familiar environment to them. Increasingly, we find raising awareness and providing training onsite is a powerful tool in supporting teams, who otherwise feel isolated from traditional support given their remote working locations."

Petrofac’s new offshore services include:

  • Competency preparation and assessment
  • Emergency response training and exercises
  • Design, review and analysis of emergency plans and processes
  • Review of emergency response equipment
  • Production of gap analysis and assessment reports

Petrofac has been providing onshore emergency response and crisis management for more than 20 years in the UK. With global training and duty holder credentials, they are uniquely positioned to deliver practical and effective emergency services.

The Emergency Response Service Centre (ERSC) is the first of its kind, set up in 2006 to support assets, vessels, normally unmanned installations and fully operational platforms with a facility and trained team in the event of an emergency, 24 hours-a-day, seven days-a-week, 365 days-a-year.

Since its launch, the ERSC team has handled more than 8,000 emergency calls and carried out over 100 mobilisations.
