Mumbai colleagues kick-start tree planting drive

Petrofac is committed to conducting its business in an environmentally responsible manner, and to encouraging all colleagues to take personal responsibility for protecting the environment.

So as part of our annual Environment Month initiative earlier this year, colleagues from our Mumbai office pledged to plant 800 trees when the weather became cooler and more hospitable to saplings.

This summer, 30 colleagues and their children gathered at Sanjay Gandhi National Park to plant the first hundred saplings. The remaining 700 will be planted by park staff.

“This tree planting ceremony reflects our desire to leave the Earth in a better state than it was when we arrived,” said Prasad Kadam, Quality Assurance Manager and the organiser of the event. “The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it.”

Lakshmi Venkatesh, General Manager of the Mumbai office, planted the inaugural sapling, and made a speech on the importance of Petrofac's commitment to the environment, and to reducing our carbon footprint.

“The main problems we see in the world are the result of the difference between how nature works, and the way people think,' said Prasad.

“If we want to make a real difference, we need to change our attitude towards the environment. We need to understand that the environment does not belong to us: we belong to the environment.”
