Foundation stone laid for Salalah project in Oman

The foundation stone for the Salalah Liquefied Petroleum Gas (SLPG) project was laid at a recent ceremony in the southern part of Oman.

The event was held under the patronage of HE Dr Mohammed bin Hamad Al Rumhy, Oman’s Minister of Oil and Gas and Chairman of Oman Oil Company. It celebrated the laying of the foundation stone for both the SLPG project and the Salalah Ammonia project.

SLPG Project Sponsor Elie Lahoud, Project Director Partha De and Oman Country Manager Ray Richardson represented Petrofac.

The lump sum engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract worth close to US$600 million for the SLPG project, was awarded to Petrofac in January 2017. The scope of work includes construction of the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) unit and associated facilities, including tie-ins to existing pipeline infrastructure, together with LPG storage and jetty facilities at the Port of Salalah.

Elie Lahoud said: “This important project builds on our long track record in Oman. It is Petrofac’s first in the Salalah region, where we look forward to broadening our capability and continuing to grow our presence in-country.”

Commenting on the occasion, Sultan bin Hamed Al Burtmani, Acting Executive Managing Director of Oman Gas Company (OGC) said: “SLPG is a strategic and pivotal investment with far-reaching effects for Oman, and thereby advancing the nation in terms of economic development and securing LPG supplies to the Governorate. The project will also help portray the OGC’s role in utilising natural gas to develop various downstream industries and create job opportunities for Omanis. We are excited to see the project moving ahead at a rapid-and-steady pace and on schedule.”
