Singapore training centre celebrates 2 million man-hours LTI free

The team at our Chemical Processing Training Centre (CPTC) in Singapore achieved 2 million man-hours without a Lost Time Incident (LTI) on 30 April 2014.

The CPTC, part of Petrofac Training Services’ portfolio of training facilities, is located on Jurong Island in Singapore. The Centre delivers training around a live and fully-operational hydrocarbon refining plant, built specifically for the purpose of training people.

Paul Jones, Singapore Country Manager, congratulated the team: ‘Two million man-hours without an LTI is a great achievement and a testament to our commitment to safety. Delivering training in a live plant environment, especially to less experienced trainees, carries a number of challenges, so we should be proud of our successful efforts to protect both the trainees and the trainers from an LTI.’

As well as classroom and laboratory training, the CPTC can conduct plant start-ups and shutdowns to give the trainees an opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge in a number of scenarios, often including an element of incident and emergency response. This way, the trainees get hands-on experience of emergency response efforts, but in a safe and controlled environment.

PTS has been operating the CPTC since 2006 on behalf of the Singapore Government and has a number of agreements signed with polytechnics and educational institutions in the country to train their students here. The Centre also delivers training for national and international oil companies.
