Caltec wins Technology and Innovation Award at the OCA Annual Dinner

Caltec, part of Petrofac Production Solutions, has been awarded the Offshore Contractors Association’s (OCA) Challenge Award for Technology and Innovation at this year’s annual dinner. The awards, now in their 13th year, recognise and promote the achievements of the OCA member companies and individuals.

Unique to the industry, the Wellcom system combines Caltec’s in-line separator (I-SEP) with jet pump technology, enhancing daily production and ultimate reservoir recovery. As a result, both field life and asset value are increased, while there is potential to increase production by 20 to 25%. The system’s green credentials are also notable, as it utilises readily available surplus energy on platforms to boost production of low pressure multiphase wells. In addition, the Wellcom system benefits from having no rotating parts and minimum maintenance requirements.

The Wellcom system will be rolled out in the North Sea and Malaysia in the coming months. The implementation of one of the skids in the North Sea is sponsored by the Technology Strategy Board (TSB) through its technology programme.

Gordon East, managing director, Production Solutions, commented: “We are honoured to be recognised for our innovation with such a prestigious award. Given the nature of work and risks involved, the oil & gas industry is naturally reluctant to adopt new technologies, but with support from the TSB, our Wellcom system is using new techniques to prevent premature abandonment of fields and help maintain UK production.”
