Award of Engineering & Construction Contract by SonaHess

Petrofac, the international oil & gas facilities service provider, has been awarded a US$16 million contract by SonaHess, a joint venture of Sonatrach and Hess.

The contract, being executed by Woking-based Petrofac Engineering & Construction (Europe), is to engineer, procure and manage the construction and commissioning of new facilities on an existing production site at the El Gassi field in Algeria. The project comprises engineering, procurement and equipment supply, on a lump sum basis, followed by construction management and commissioning on a reimbursable basis.

Under the terms of the contract, Petrofac will deliver a new 38,000 barrels per day (bpd) 3 phase separator and a Reid Vapour Pressure package which will incorporate a 6.2 megawatt fired heater to heat a 47,000 bpd side stream from the 18in oil inlet flow line. All the equipment will be installed and commissioned under Petrofac’s supervision.

Maroun Semaan, Chief Executive, Petrofac Engineering & Construction, said: “The El Gassi contract builds upon the group’s service offering across the North African market, including existing projects for BHP Billiton and BP in Algeria, more recent awards in Egypt and Tunisia, and our investment as development partner and operator in the Chergui field, offshore Tunisia.”
