Alrar celebrates production

Monday 2 July 2018 marked a major milestone for Sonatrach, the Petrofac team, and our joint venture partner Bonatti, as the Alrar gas field project in Algeria celebrated the start of production.

Officials, including Minister of Interior, Local Authorities and National Planning, Noureddine Bedoui, and Minister of Energy, Mustapha Guitouni, along with senior executives including Sonatrach’s Chief Executive, Abdelmoumen Ould Kaddour and Petrofac’s Group Chief Executive, Ayman Asfari came together for a symbolic inauguration ceremony at this important gas field.

Petrofac leads the joint venture with Bonatti awarded in 2013 to execute an engineering, procurement and construction contract for Sonatrach to extend the life of the field, which is close to Algeria’s border with Libya. Output at the field, which has been in operation since 1987, has risen from 16 to 24.7 million cubic metres per day.

The scope of work included the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning services for the development of new separation and booster compression facilities.

Commenting on the milestone Graham Mac Millan, Senior Vice President – North Africa, said: “I am delighted that the project has successfully moved into the start-up phase and that Sonatrach are now able to boost their production from this enormous field.”

Manish Bhojwani, Project Manager said: “A project such as this involves a number of logistical challenges, particularly as situated in a remote desert region. I’d like to thank our joint venture partner Bonatti, my project team and the various other parties involved who have worked collaboratively to reach this milestone.”
