Handover of MAB1 facilities at Kuwait’s Clean Fuels Project
Our team delivering the Clean Fuels Project in Kuwait has achieved the Provisional Turnover of Facilities (PTOF) for Kuwait National Petroleum Company’s (KNPC) Mina Abdullah Refinery Package 3 (MAB1).
We have been leading a joint venture with South Korea’s Samsung Engineering Co Ltd and CB&I Nederland BV (now McDermott International). The project has involved the expansion and upgrading of KNPC’s Mina Abdullah and Mina Al-Ahmadi refineries, to develop an integrated complex, increasing processing capacity to 800,000 barrels per day. The production of a new generation of ultra-low Sulphur fuel products will boost Kuwait’s global position in the industry.
Prashant Bokil, JV Project Director, said:
This significant milestone marks the safe completion and handover of MAB1 facilities to KNPC. I would like to thank everyone involved, from the various office locations and at site. The pandemic has been a major challenge, everyone has been focused on keeping people safe and healthy, whilst ensuring the project continues to be executed effectively. There have been many obstacles, which all parties have worked collaboratively to successfully overcome. We are now supporting our client to successfully commission the balance of the units.
This has been a large Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) project, in which operational excellence has been a key theme throughout. The teams have maintained an exemplary safety record with more than 67.8 million work hours without lost-time incident since April 2018.
