AYOUB ALBALUSHI
Ayoub is 29 and a Civil and Structural Engineer in Oman

I joined the Petrofac Academy in 2014 and was based in the Sharjah office during that time. I started about three months after I graduated university, where I’d been studying Civil Engineering in Oman. It was exciting because we were the first group to join Petrofac from there. It was an amazing chance to meet other people, I studied in Oman with only locals but at the Academy, I met people from other nationalities: Indian, Lebanese, so many cultures.

They did courses and workshops, and lots of group work. So, we were living together and working together: it was a very interesting experience. I’d graduated as a civil engineer and I had a general idea of what that meant but the Academy really gave me an amazing business sense of what was happening off and onshore. The technical aspects are very important and can be challenging.

Recently I was sent on a project and I was able to use what I had learnt dealing with clients and contractors. Going forward, I’m still learning, and the Petrofac environment is very useful for that. We have many projects in Oman and I hope to be able to work in refinery projects or offshore in the future.
