Local time

Petrofac has a strong heritage in Oman dating back to 1988. We continue to build our portfolio in the Sultanate, which includes:

  • Engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) projects
  • Engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCm) projects
  • Operations and maintenance (O&M) support contracts
  • Training services

Oman is a strategically important location for us and we support the country’s Omanisation objectives. We are focused on maximising the local supply chain and resources, working hard to be an integral part of the local community.

We have a long-term Framework Agreement (FA) with Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) for the provision of EPCm support services for major oil and gas projects in the Sultanate. Future projects undertaken through the FA will be supported by our Muscat office for technical delivery and to ensure we generate sustainable in-country value.

Ongoing projects

  • Improvements to existing as well as the addition of new refining units in the Sohar Industrial Area for Orpic. This is a 50/50 joint venture with Daelim which is scheduled for completion in 2017
  • Central processing facility for BP’s Khazzan gas project due for completion in 2017
  • Construction of a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) unit, associated facilities and storage for the Salalah LPG extraction project, together with jetty facilities at the Port of Salalah
  • Engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, training and start-up operations for all the utilities and offsites at the Duqm refinery

Training services

  • Joint venture with Takatuf (a subsidiary of Oman Oil Company) to create a leading technical training centre of excellence, scheduled to open late 2017, and which will accelerate the development of skilled and competent technicians for the oil and gas industry

Completed projects

  • Kauther gas field depletion compression project. This project followed the successful commissioning and initial operations of the first Kauther gas plant in 2007, which we built on an EPC basis on behalf of Petroleum Development Oman
  • EPC contract for the second phase of the Harweel Cluster Development, which included the project management, detailed engineering, procurement, construction, pre-commissioning, training and support during commissioning of the project

Delivering in-country value

We deliver locally in support of the Government of Oman’s in-country value (ICV) programme. We recruit and train Omani personnel as well as utilise and develop Omani service providers and vendors. Our growing engineering office in Muscat further demonstrates our commitment to being an integral and sustainable part of the local market.
