Client: Petróleos Mexicanos (PEMEX)

Location: Tabasco State, south-central Mexico

Scope: Increase production and manage ongoing operations and maintenance

Key facts:

  • Total number of wells: 820 (49 operating)
  • Crude production: 3,667 BPD
  • Gas production: 10.66 MMCFD

The Magallanes block was first discovered by Petróleos Mexicanos (PEMEX) around the early 1960s and comprises two mature onshore fields.

After a decline in production due to the project’s maturity, Petrofac was awarded a Production Enhancement Contract (PEC) in 2011 to develop the block – together with the Santuario block – becoming the first foreign company to operate state oil fields in Mexico for more than 70 years.

Since taking responsibility for Magallanes, we have introduced many significant maintenance and integrity programmes to conserve and enhance the safety, efficiency and environmental security of the assets.

We are working to migrate the Magallanes PEC to a Production Sharing Contract (PSC) which we aim to complete by the end of 2018.
