Petrofac welcomes local pupils in bid to help their career development

Petrofac, the international oil & gas service provider, has welcomed pupils from Kincorth Academy this week as part of an initiative to demonstrate to young people opportunities in the oil & gas industry and assist in their career development.
The fourth year pupils joined Petrofac’s Bridge View office, Aberdeen on Monday (18 June 2012) as part of the Passport to Success initiative, a partnership project with the school offering a programme of careers advice and skills development.
Petrofac’s partnership with Kincorth Academy is now in its fourteenth year and has seen them interact with a significant number of pupils.
Dylan Trendall, Caitlin Reid, Anthony Regis and Katrina Baillie will work within Petrofac’s Offshore Projects & Operations business unit during their placement, spending time with the operations, business acquisition and commercial and marketing teams and will also visit Petrofac Training’s offshore training facility at Altens. Jamie Carter will spend his time with Petrofac Training Services within their competency team which manages competence for internal and external clients.
The opportunity will provide pupils with workplace experience, allow them to build contacts in the industry and encourage them to consider new career possibilities when making subject choices.
Throughout the school year representatives from Petrofac’s organisational development team have worked closely with Kincorth Academy to deliver the Passport to Success project which involves career workshops for pupils focusing on CVs, personal statements and interview techniques.
Drew Russell, Vice President, Offshore Projects, said: “We recognise the importance of educating the next generation on the exciting opportunities within Petrofac and the wider industry, to ensure we have people coming out of education with an interest in the industry and a desire to be part of our growth.
“The Passport to Success project is something we have continually developed with Kincorth Academy since the initiative was founded in 2008, to ensure the information and support we are providing pupils with remains relevant and offers real benefits for them and their future, which is an exciting process to be part of.”
Mary Thom, Guidance teacher from Kincorth Academy said: “We are delighted to be involved in the Passport to Success initiative which is also an excellent opportunity for us to increase our links with staff at Petrofac.
“It is very valuable for our pupils to have access to Petrofac staff and be able to ask questions which can be answered based on true life experiences.
“The feedback we have received from pupils so far this year and in previous years has been very positive with pupils finding the sessions and work placements extremely interesting and useful.
“The workshops throughout the year and work placement this week are very much equipping our young people with essential life skills.”
