Award Win for Petrofac and Kincorth Academy Partnership
13 June, 2008
Kincorth Academy and Petrofac, the international oil & gas facilities service provider, have won an accolade at Aberdeen City Council’s Children & Young People’s Services Awards for their ground-breaking education and industry partnership, which has been running since 1998.
Hugh Bryce, the head teacher of Kincorth Academy, and Robin Watson, a director within Petrofac Facilities Management, collected the ‘Schools Award’ at the ceremony held at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre on Thursday 12 June. The awards recognise people working in schools, community establishments, fostering and adoption services, family centres, children’s homes and others, along with the children and young people with whom they work.
Kincorth Academy and Petrofac were given the award in recognition of their 10th year in partnership. The model developed by their education-industry collaboration has been replicated throughout Scotland and was instrumental in shaping the Scottish Government’s ‘Determined to Succeed’ initiative.
Petrofac has supported Kincorth Academy in many initiatives throughout the partnership’s tenure including the development of an all-weather community sports pitch, a pupil mentoring scheme, an annual award ceremony to recognise the achievements of pupils and the support of the Kincorth community theatre group.
Robin Watson said: “The partnership we have with Kincorth Academy has been a tremendous success by any measure. There is no bigger testament to the success of the partnership than when we consider the valuable direct and indirect contribution it has made to the pupils of the school and when measuring the number of similar partnership arrangements which have now been established across the North East and beyond.”
Hugh Bryce added: “The partnership has brought a new dimension to the life of the school. Many initiatives and opportunities have been provided for pupils and staff which have greatly enriched the school, and indeed the community. The 10th year anniversary is testament to the commitment and success of the partnership.”
