Memoranda of Understanding with Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) the Malaysian National Oil Company

Petrofac and PETRONAS intend to collaborate in the area of competency development, capability building and education activities. This will involve a technical training partnership between Petrofac Training Services and Institut Teknologi Petroleum PETRONAS (INSTEP) to develop competency-based training for operations and maintenance personnel, as well as lecture and seminar programmes with the Universiti Teknologi Petroleum (UTP).

Project deliverables to date:

Our Chemical Process Training Centre (CPTC) in Singapore has been working in conjunction with the wider IES Beranti project to implement a competence framework and workforce nationalisation programme to deliver a job ready and competent workforce for the Beranti FPSO.

This translated into immediate actions to deliver fast track training to ensure there were job-ready technicians to work on the FPSO and to create a training skid to be used as a centre for future training purposes. 22 former INSTEP graduates were picked to receive this training at CPTC, so they were quickly competent and capable to operate the FPSO as part of the Operations and Maintenance team.

Since then, we have gifted a Safe System of Work (SSOW) training skid to Petronas to allow additional training courses at site and have held “train the trainer” sessions to ensure staff are fully competent and capable to deliver the training, with courses diarised for early January.

We are very privileged and pleased to be working together with PETRONAS to help co-create, build and deliver a competency framework and the capability of the local workforce. This will help to enable the rapid development of a quality and technically skilled workforce for the oil and gas industry, particularly in Malaysia.
