Petrofac entered the UKCS in 1992 following the acquisition of PGS Production and since then the Aberdeen-based business has grown both organically and through further acquisitions, including that of RGIT Montrose in 2004, which established the company’s training capability.

Petrofac’s Offshore Projects & Operations, Training Services, Production Solutions, and Engineering & Consulting Services businesses are all represented in and around Aberdeen.

The breadth of service offering from Aberdeen is significant. From the supply of experienced personnel to full scale Duty Holder services, from training at our range of world class facilities to asset integrity, engineering and modifications, the operational and consultancy teams based in Aberdeen are focused on optimising uptime, enhancing production and ultimately extending the life of our customers’ assets. Being based in the energy capital of Europe means that the teams here enjoy the experience of working in a mature and heavily regulated environment resulting in valuable knowledge that is readily shared across the global oil & gas industry.

Our local approach and customer focus make us different and allow us flexibility and as such our services can be procured in component parts or as an integrated service offering. We also have the ability to invest in projects and deploy capital through our relationship with our Integrated Energy Services (IES) business, increasing our involvement in projects and establishing us as a partner, not just a supplier.

We’re also very active in the local community, supporting educational, sporting and enterprising endeavours that make a difference to our employees and the people who live close to our operations. For example:

  • since 2007 we’ve sponsored the Petrofac Athletics League, a north-east based league that encourages young people looking to become the next Olympic athlete
  • the Petrofac Challenge is a 15 mile, multi-terrain race run across the beautiful Balmoral Estate. Only in its second year, it is quickly becoming a significant part of the runner’s calendar, including that of a number of Petrofac employees.
  • and since 1998 we’ve enjoyed a successful education-industry partnership with Kincorth Academy. The partnership was the first of its kind and was used by the industry and education department as an excellent example of how to do it. Today we continue to work with the school to provide, amongst other things, careers guidance, work placements and subject support whilst providing our knowledge and experience to help them run their own environment committee and we run an annual bridge-building contest which is always a lot of fun.

Our significant presence in Aberdeen reflects the city’s status as the energy capital of Europe and Petrofac’s as a leading service provider to the industry. We’re committed to the North Sea, the region and to our many long-term customers and through the experience and knowledge held within our Aberdeen-based teams we will continue to have a positive impact on their futures.
