Petrofac has been established in Algeria since 1999. Our main office is situated in the country’s capital, Algiers. Our Hassi Messaoud base is the main support centre for Petrofac projects in the south of the country in terms of logistics, procurement and administration sub-contracting.
We are currently executing two major projects in Algeria: the El Merk Field central processing facility and the In Salah Southern Fields projects, respectively awarded in 2009 and 2011.
The In Salah Southern Fields development project is executed by In Salah Gas, an association of Sonatrach, BP and Statoil. The project, to be completed in phases over 50 months, is designed to maintain a plateau gas production rates of nine billion cube metres per annum beyond 2013.
Underpinning Petrofac’s presence in Algeria is our commitment to supporting Algeria’s nationalisation programme. Our Training Services business opened the Hassi Messaoud Constructions Skills Training Centre in 2010. The centre has the capacity to deliver training programmes and qualify approximately 300 above Algerian nationals annually. Training is primarily skills based, with a strong emphasis on health and safety. The curriculum on offer covers five specialist trade areas:
- instrumentation
- electrical
- mechanical
- pipe fabrication
- welding

Country Manager
I am delighted that we have secured the southern fields project. We hope to build upon the experience and knowledge gained from our long track-record of working in Algeria, including our recent involvement with the In Salah gas compression project and look forward to strengthening further our relationships with both ISG and our subcontracting partners during the execution stages.
