Petrofac has had a presence in Tunisia for the last six years supporting projects in its Integrated Energy Services and Engineering Construction, Operations & Maintenance divisions.
With a central business hub in the capital Tunis, the business has additional operational offices adjacent to its operations.
To date, Petrofac has executed a variety of conceptual/FEED work for the country’s developments as well as executing a major EPC project (Hasdrubal gas plant) and has ongoing operations at the Chergui gas field concession on the island of Kerkennah.
ETAP and Petrofac have 55% and 45% stakes in the Chergui facility respectively and during 2011 Petrofac provided an average of 750,000 Nm3/d of gas representing just under 10% of Tunisia’s production, and 22,000m3 of condensate.
In its fifth year of operations at Chergui, Petrofac is committed to providing a sustainable presence in the local community. In this respect, over 90% of employees are Tunisian with over 50 being directly engaged from the Kerkennah. Similarly high numbers are engaged through relationships with sub-vendors and the business currently has contracts exceeding one million Tunisian dollars with island businesses.
Petrofac’s support to the region includes the following:
- Petrofac increased its community and social responsibility support to the island in 2011 by investing over 1.7 million TND in support of employment of 15 islanders for environmental programmes
- for 2012, Petrofac is focusing on projects to diversify and improve agricultural and fishing income
- provide training to encourage entrepreneurism
- sponsor local safety and environmental projects
