Having had a presence in the Emirate since 1991, the business has developed a large multi-national work force servicing both regional and international opportunities. It is also worthy of note that our Sharjah presence could not have been sustained without the help of the Emirate’s Government and the kind and generous support of His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohamad Al Qassimi, Member of the UAE Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.
Petrofac has several office locations in Sharjah however our flagship ‘tower’, Petrofac House in the Al-Khan district of Sharjah, is an iconic landmark for the business. Supporting Petrofac’s future development plans, a new tower is currently under construction which will be interconnected to the existing Al Khan building. When complete, the business will be able to consolidate around 4,000 employees between the two adjacent facilities.
Also based in Sharjah is our joint venture with China Petroleum Engineering and Construction Corporation (CPECC). China Petroleum Petrofac Engineering Services (CPPES) provides project management and engineering services for selected oil and gas projects, focusing on projects for Chinese oil and gas companies.
Petrofac understands the importance of its role in the local community and in this respect has many relationships in place and engages in a variety of programmes involving local NGOs, charities, educational establishments, for example:
- “your child, your responsibility” – an ongoing campaign under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, wife of the Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs. Predominantly reaching out to Sharjah residents, the campaign team is working closely with the local community, through a variety of activities such as lectures, workshops and advertising, to raise awareness around the importance of using car seats to keep young children safe
- “road safety, it’s no accident” – a 12-month road safety programme run in 2010/11, in collaboration with Sharjah Police targeting the importance of using seatbelts, not using mobile telephones when driving and not driving at excessive speed
- “English Live” – an English language programme with local NGO, Action Care, for school children who wouldn’t otherwise have such an opportunity. Petrofac was the main sponsor and provided a team of volunteers to take part in the programme
Ensuring we have an enduring and efficient business with clear targets and objectives which are well understood by our management, without diluting the prevailing entrepreneurial culture, will be critical to our continued sustainability and success.
Maroun Semaan, President, Petrofac
