Promoting road safety in Oman

25 April, 2012

Petrofac, Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) and local students recently enjoyed a successful road safety and defensive driving forum held at the Osama Bin Zaid school, close to our Kauther depletion compression (KDC) project site in Oman.

Our KDC team delivered the event to around 250 students from three local schools: Adam School, Osama Bin Zaid School and Zahiya School. Management representatives from the schools and an observer from the Ministry of Education in Oman also attended.

KDC project director, Elie Lahoud, commented on the initiative: “Driving safety is one of the golden rules of safety for both Petrofac and PDO so getting the message out to our wider community means a great deal to us. Fortunately we have significant ongoing support from PDO, with this event being the second of its kind we have run locally.”

The workshop focused on road safety awareness for both drivers and pedestrians. The importance of following rules and regulations on roads was highlighted by discussing the main hazards to the students and the potential consequences of their own actions if these rules are not followed. Overall a wide range of subjects including defensive driving and vehicle accident rescue were covered in our workshop which received highly positive feedback from the attendees.

Elie added, “It was also a great privilege for our team to accept an appreciation certificate from The Ministry of Education in Oman for its role in raising awareness of this subject in the local community.”
