Underpinning our presence in Algeria is our commitment to invest in grassroot training. We opened the Hassi Messaoud Constructions Skills Training Centre in 2010, which helps young local people acquire the skills they need to work in the oil and gas industry. Since 2010 over 800 people have graduated from the centre in five technical disciplines:

  • instrumentation
  • electrical
  • mechanical
  • pipe fabrication
  • welding

We have also upgraded a training centre in the In Salah town, built a craft centre at El Merk and facilitated English language courses for engineers through the British council.

We have been focused on developing strong local relationships in Algeria - approximately 60% of our labour force comes from local towns, so our relationships with local people are very important. They are the cornerstone for all our business development and growth.
