Petrofac celebrates group-wide Environment Month

Petrofac, the international oil & gas facilities service provider, successfully concluded its second annual group-wide Environment Month initiative, which intended to engage its employees in making a positive difference to the environment.

Held throughout the month of November – and part of the organisation’s Planet Petrofac campaign – numerous different events and initiatives took place at offices and project locations around the world.

Raising awareness of environmental issues both internally and among the local communities in which the group operates was the main objective. As part of this, Petrofac encouraged its staff and their families to ‘be part of the solution’ through initiatives such as tree planting, a children’s art competition, beach clean-ups and environmental awareness events.

As a result a further 1,100 trees were planted in locations, including Aberdeen, Kyrgyzstan and Sharjah, building on the 1,000 trees planted during the 2008 campaign.

The group’s first children’s art competition received around 300 entries and was a great way of taking the environment message to the younger generation.

Chris Allen, Petrofac’s group director of HSSE and Integrity Assurance, said: “Following the great success of last year’s group-wide Environment Month I am pleased that so many of our employees volunteered to take part once more. The theme, ‘be part of the solution’, really resonates with people and the month-long programme of activity builds on our positive attitude towards environmental responsibility in the local communities in which we work.”
